254SMO has a face-centered cubic lattice structure. To obtain an austenitic structure, 254SMO is generally annealed at a temperature of 1150-1200 degrees Celsius. In some cases, there may be metallic intermediate phases (χ phase and
α phase) traces. But in general, they have no adverse effects on impact strength and corrosion resistance. These phases may precipitate at grain boundaries when placed in the range of 600-1000 degrees Celsius.
